Reciprocal IVF

Reciprocal IVF is a great option for lesbian couples or couples including trans men. It allows both partners to participate in the baby formation process.  

One woman donates the egg to be used to create the embryo. The embryo is implanted in the partner who ultimately carries the pregnancy.

Your Journey

Step 1: Fertility Consult Call

Meet with a Sama fertility doctor who can answer pressing questions, share success rates, and guide you through your journey.

Step 2: Fertility Tests & Lab Results Call

Complete diagnostic blood testing to determine whether you'll be a good candidate for IVF.​

Step 3: Care Planning Call

Meet with a member of our care team to understand pricing and process, who is available to help, and how you can reach them.​

Step 4: Sperm Collection

Work with a selection of sperm banks to identify a sperm donor that best suits you. All sperm collected by a sperm bank is tested for quality, then frozen and stored.​​

Step 5: Ovarian Simulation 

One female patient will take medications that encourage her ovaries to produce more mature eggs than they naturally would. ​

Step 6: Egg Retrieval

Egg development is tracked remotely through Sama's unique remote monitoring program. Eggs are retrieved at a Sama fertility clinic.

Step 7: Embryo Creation and Testing

After retrieval, each egg is inseminated with a single sperm through a process known as intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI. Genetic testing, included in the cost of care, is conducted on up to six embryos to identify any genetic abnormalities which might harm you or your embryos. Only healthy embryos with high chances of successful IVF pregnancies are chosen for transfer.

Step 8: Embryo Transfer

Once a single, healthy embryo is identified, it's time for the embryo transfer. Transfers take place at a Sama clinic and are carried out by a fertility doctor. Any healthy embryos that are left over are frozen for future use or donation.

Step 9: Pregnancy Testing and Monitoring

About two weeks after the transfer, you'll take a pregnancy test. If the test is positive, we'll have you take another test shortly after to confirm that the pregnancy is progressing well. If the pregnancy test is negative, we are here to provide support. We'll partner with you to explore the best next steps for your family building journey.

Step 10: Embryo Storage

Any healthy embryos that aren't implanted can be stored for future use. Sama has a bespoke partnership with TMRW, the world's first automated, proprietary storage management platform. Storage is available at $600 / year.​​
